Dear President Obama,

Dear President Obama,

You don't know me, but I'm a fellow American who lives in Arizona. I write this letter because I have to apologize.

You see, I am a believer in Christ Jesus, and I have failed Him and I have failed you, sir.

I am called to not only pray for you, which I haven't been doing, but to accept your authority, because God has placed you in the position which you hold.

Romans 13: 1-2 is quite clear.

Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.

That is a heavy responsibility for us who profess to believe. And sir, frankly...you have a heavy responsibility as well, according to God. I wouldn't be in your place, if I could be.

We are on the opposite sides of the aisle in beliefs. We would probably not agree on many things. But you are the leader of this country, you have a platform that I do not. Much more will be required of you, than of me.

So I am striving to pray for you, and for those around you in leadership. I pray that you heed the voice of God. That you follow His Word, just as I am trying too. I pray that you seek to reach out to those less fortunate than us, both here in the USA and those outside her boarders. I pray that you find a measure of peace, in your hectic world of major league chess. I pray that you know when to fight, when to stand, when to leave it up to God, when to leave it alone.

I also pray that my fellow believers will join me, and many others, in faithfully praying for you, and the choices you face daily, that they are Godly and full of wisdom.

I have so much more I could ask of you, but you're a busy man, and have many things to take care, but I will leave you with this.

Remember that the people of Israel are the Lords people. We are to stand with them, help them, pray for them. We are not to make them our enemies. For if we do...His wrath will soon follow. Please keep this in consideration in the coming days, months and years, if God has chosen you again for this position.

With much prayer,

Peggy

  1. Absolutely love this and am sharing it on facebook! I have become so tired of the bashing by Christians that I have hid many people on my facebook page because of their attacks on Obama..He is a person, a soul Christ died for, and beyond that, he is an authority in this country. Like you, I feel we are called to PRAY for him and not join the attacks. Thank you for putting into words so eloquently many of my feelings on the matter as well :)

  2. You're welcome!

I too have had to scroll past the hateful posts on FB, in an attempt to not join in, as I did not too long ago. It's a slippery path we go down, when we start to accept a slip here and a slip there in ourselves. It's been eye opening for me.

Please, feel free to share where ever you'd like too.

  7. When we criticize politicians on FB we need to remember we are criticizing (and I have seen some make fun of) things our friends believe in and care about, and that is hurtful to them. We are also not behaving like Christ. I have posted more thoughts on this on Elisa's blog. :-)
