San Simeon Beach, California |
Shortly before my Dad passed away in 2011, we'd planned to take a family trip to California. To the beach. With his passing, we (my mom, husband and I) debating on still going. We choose to go still. So to Pismo Beach we drove. *Again the beach, something about it is soothing and calming to us, I suppose. We met with a few of my girlfriends and their families. Mostly spending time at the beach, soaking up the sun, the smells of the ocean and the sand between our toes. (And in our shoes, under our pants, in our hair...it gets everywhere) We didn't make many plans, but thought it would be lovely to take a drive up to Hearst Castle, and went to the pair their, enjoying the scenery. Along the way, we saw a colony of seals (the exact species escapes me right now) I snapped countless pictures of them, and the one above is among my favorites.
The beach, and the ocean, seem to be a place that calls to me, when I'm deeply hurt and missing someone. I'm not close now, but even the sound of water, waves, and the gulls can do a lot to calm me.
Do you have something that just calms you when nothing else will?
